Sort-of cooked chicken, squashed.

Sort-of cooked chicken, squashed.

Here's the cooked chicken I tweeted about earlier, lying in the middle of Warren Road, discarded by some resident from the flats nearby. The first time I passed it. it was whole, meaning it can't have been there for very long. A few minutes later on my way back, it had been squashed.

the worst thing about this photo is that IT'S NOT EVEN COOKED PROPERLY. Look at how red the insides are.

It's quite possibly the most rank thing I've seen all day, and that includes looking at myself in the mirror.

Sorry for the cameraphonetastic quality, The owners of the ex-chicken were watching me take this from their window

Boy Cooking Chicken on Open Fire at Waterfall

Boy Cooking Chicken on Open Fire at Waterfall

This picture was taken in Zambales, Philippines at a local waterfall. This young boy was cooking a chicken that had earlier been prepared on the rocks next to the waterfall. It was extremely hot but he sat there for ages making sure it was cooked. It was added to rice, also cooked on the fire earlier.(C)gaj2011

The wall o' text all typed up for those who are interested:

Hey Dan "Imperfect" Hilton!

Merry christmas to you! I just got your gift in the mail today, and figured I'd write back right away so this reaches you in time! Thank you for some seriously great gifts! I just tried one of the maple dreams, and it was great. Since I'll be moving out of my home soon, the two books make a good start for my own cook-book collection. Your letter will go up on the wall as the first christmas card of the year (which is a big deal, let me tell you). So let me tell you about this picture, it's the dutch houses of parliament, and people are ice-skating on the pond in front of it. The tower on the left is actually the office of the prime minister. So in winter, you can skate up to his office and knock on his window! How cool is that! I read of the forum that you got laid off recently, sorry to hear that. I was much happier to read that you got a new job! Congrats! I hope you have an awesometastic christmas this year, and I'm sure I'll see you around on the forums!

Seasons greetings! (to the rest of Canada, too)

'Ampix'

Thanks, Santee!

Day 131 (February 3rd): Bring It!

Day 131 (February 3rd): Bring It!

First Superbowl Sunday ever.

I was told to root for the Giants, which obviously turned out well. I had some really cool people patiently explaining the game to me as I went along and I did my best to get into it... I understood it by the end of the game, but I don't think it really stuck with me. It was still a good time and I was happy that everyone (I suppose I should say "almost" everyone) was pleased with the final result. And I know I get the same way when it comes to hockey.

Um, myself, Paul and Rachel entered a chili-making competition and we won the meat-based category!

I realized I was using my pantry for quite a bit more than storage this week. Here you see the horseradish vodka and rum-based vanilla extract I had steeping. Not pictured: yogurt working its magic on heavy cream for cultured butter.

Recipe used: Quick Cooking Oats and Other Rolled (or Flaked) Grains (620)

I could have used the recipe on the Quaker Oats box, but why do that, when I have Madison's?! It couldn't be easier: salt water, boil water, stir in grains, let it sit. Her instructions yielded much soupier oatmeal than I like, though it thickened up nicely in the fridge after a day.

The Danbos cooking a soup

The Danbos cooking a soup

When I came back from my little photo tour, the apartment smelled like food.
I followed the smell and I ended up in the kitchen.
The Danbos were about to cook a delicious soup with vegetables.
D. cut the vegetables and Danbo washed them and put them into a bowl.
They said in this weather you have to take lots of vitamins and to strengthen yourself, that you won't get sick.
Great, I don't have to cook now! :) If the soup tastes like it smells.. the soup will taste super delicious!

I didn't want to do a Danbo pic today but somehow i had to... Wanted to shoot the picture with my 50mm lens but i couldn't find it.

Cooking Steak On The Green Egg

Cooking Steak On The Green Egg

Step 6:
-Depending on thickness, cooking times will vary from 1.5 minutes to 2.5 minutes per side.
-You want a nice char but don't want to burn it. This one has great grill marks and a little over charring on the side, but is fine with me.
-It is very important that once the meat touches the grill DON'T move it until it is time to turn it over. Also don't prod and poke the meat... it's working its magic!

-After both sides have cooked for 1.5 to 2.5 minutes, close the bottom vent to about 1 inch open and put the black control vent on top of the Green Egg. Move steak to the edge of grill or a place that is not directly over a flame.

-I aim for Medium Rare/Medium on my steaks so the steak will now cook for an additional 3 minutes.

1.5 + 1.5 + 3 = Medium for a 1.25 inch thick Strip Steak.
